Rockwall Independent School District accepted Rachel's Challenge at both the middle and high school level. Rockwall High School and Rockwall-Heath High School counselors presented the Rachel’s Challenge Program to their students in April 2006 and formed the "Friends of Rachel Club" where students continue to meet the challenge of kindness and compassion.
"Don’t let your character change color with your environment. Find out who you are and let it stay its true color." These are the words of Columbine High School junior Rachel Scott. Her life was the first taken in one of the worst school shootings in American history. However, the inspirational words she left behind in six journals are timeless. In an essay written one month before her death, Rachel challenged her readers to "Start a chain reaction of kindness and compassion."
Rockwall ISD is the first district in the United States to introduce the Rachel’s Challenge Organization at the elementary level. The foundation of social, emotional and academic skills begins in elementary. Extending the ideals of Rachel’s Challenge on elementary campuses will make Rockwall ISD primary schools safe places to learn and grow.
